Let's talk about Bacterial Meningitis which is a rare but potentially life-threatening infection that causes inflammation of the membranes surrounding the brain and spinal cord.
It’s caused by certain bacteria, such as Neisseria meningitidis, Streptococcus pneumoniae or Haemophilus influenzae. While it’s uncommon, it can spread in close-contact settings, so awareness is key.
Bacterial meningitis can spread through close contact, such as coughing, sneezing or sharing utensils with an infected person. However, it’s not as contagious as the common cold or flu. Good hygiene practices, like frequent handwashing, regular disinfectant fogging and covering your mouth when coughing, can help reduce the risk.

Vaccination: Vaccines are available for some types of bacterial meningitis (e.g., meningococcal, pneumococcal and Hib vaccines). Check with your healthcare provider to ensure you and your family are up to date.
Healthy Habits: Maintain good hygiene, avoid sharing drinks or utensils and stay mindful of close-contact environments.
Stay Informed: If you’re in a community setting (e.g., schools or camps), stay alert for any health advisories.
